Headline: Mrs. M. M. West Dies at her Home
Mrs. Americus Bailey West, 94, a resident of Jefferson County for the past 41 
years and widow of Martin M. West, died early this morning at the home of her 
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Orbie L. West of 1400 West 19th.  In 
declining health for several years, she had been confined to her bed since 
suffering a fall in January and her condition had been considered critical the 
past two weeks. She was born in Americus, Ga., May 24, 1864, a daughter of the 
late John and Henrietta Bailey.  Mrs. West came to Arkansas with her parents 
in early girlhood and attended school in Lincoln County.  She was married to 
Mr. West at Rest, Ark., on Dec. 24, 1889, and the couple celebrated their 
Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1939.  Mrs. West, with her family, resided in 
Lincoln County until the fall of 1917, when they moved to Jefferson County.  
They lived in Pine Bluff and later at Watson Chapel until Mr. West’s death on 
April 7, 1943.  Since that time, she had made her home with her son.  She was 
a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and a charter member of the Beech 
Street Baptist Church.  Survivors include another son, Melvin C. West of Pine 
Bluff, 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-
grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon.  Arrangements 
will be announced by Robinson Mortuary.
