Logan County W.P. TYGART, merchant and farmer, Prairie View, Ark. Prominent among the successful merchants and farmers of Logan County stand the name of W.P. Tygart, who was born in Walker County, Ga., in 1848. His parents were J.H. and E.J. (Lasley) Tygart. He was reared in Arkansas, and his educational advantages were rather limited, although being of studious habits, and a man of observation, he has become well informed on all the current topics of the day. In the year 1865 he started out to make his own way in life, and engaged in merchandising and farming, which occupations he has continued to follow since. He is the owner of 290 acres of land in Logan County, Ark., and his improvements are all of a first-class order. In merchandising he has also been unusually successful, and has the confidence of his many patrons. He carries a stock of goods valued at about $6,000, and has conducted this business in Prairie View for the past four years. He was married in 1869, to Miss Mary A. Sivley, daughter of William R. and Obedience Sivley, and to this union have been born eight children, who are named as follows: G.W. (deceased), William M. (deceased), Mary B. (deceased), P.M., Waity (deceased), Mary E., Ira O. and May. The four children now living are at home and enjoying the best of health. Mr. Tygart has always supported the Republican ticket, believing its views to be sound and well suited to any man. Mrs. Tygart and her daughter, Mary E., are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
