Evans of Cabot, Lonoke County, Arkansas applied for Confederate Pension on May 16, 1902. He stated in his application that he was a member of Colonel Eagle's regiment and that he was 82 years of age, feeble, debilitated and unable to provide for his own support, one leg wasted and perished. His Proof of Service was supplied by Arkansas Governor James P. Eagle who said he had known him for 40 years and that he belonged to Company C, Second Arkansas Mounted Rifleman dismounted and that he served from 1861 to 1862. Evidence of Physician was provided by G. W. Granberry, M. D. He stated that Joel Evans was suffering from a knife wound in the back, where the hip and back bone joins, which injured or severed the nerve supply of the left leg, causing it to perish away and greatly impede locomotion. Due to the knife wound and advancing years he was disqualified from making a living by manual labor. On the 14th day of August, 1902, Joel J.
