He was a hazardous waste specialist and a graduate of Cal-Poly, where he received a degree in architecture. CABOT -- Memorial services for William Boyd "Hoppy" Birdsong, 59, of Cabot, Ark., who passed away May 2, 1998, will be Saturday, May 9, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Bayou Meto Baptist Church, 26200 Hwy 107, Jacksonville, Ark., where he was a member. He was an avid golfer and dart player. a volunteer coach for his children's and their friends' basketball, softball and baseball teams. CARLISLE -- Mary Moore Brainard, 88, of Carlisle, died Wednesday. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Brainard; son, Lloyd R. Brainard of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughter, Mary Yarborough of Memphis; three sisters, Margaret Ponder of Louisiana, Edith Wilson and Jewell Crump, both of Lonoke; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild. CARLISLE -- Homer Corder Stratton, 87, of Carlisle died Tuesday (5 May 1998). Visitation 6-8 p.m. today (7 May 1998) at the funeral home. CEDAR PARK, Texas -- Ellen Sowell, age 89, passed peacefully into the Arms of our Lord on Saturday, May 2, 1998, in Cedar Park, Texas. Ellen was born to Ben and Martha Anderson, Nov. 15, 1908. She attended one-room country schools, graduated from Cabot (Ark.) High School and taught school for a short time before marrying Harmon Sowell, her lifelong mate until his death in 1992. She was an accomplished seamstress and retired from the Arkansas State Welfare Department. A lifelong resident of Campground Community (near Cabot, Ark.), she was a charter member of Campground Baptist Church and a long-time member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. Ellen will be remembered as a strong and righteous woman who fought tirelessly for causes important to her and the community. Ellen will be greatly missed by her children -- Jerry (Pat) Sowell and wife, Clara, of Cedar Park, Texas; Martha Rosemary Anderson and husband, Ronnie, of Santa Fe, Texas; six grandchildren -- Donna Ruth, Lin, Michael, Deborah, Beverly, and Linda; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was born July 24, 1916, in England to William Parks Wilbanks and Ola May Reeves Wilbanks. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Paul O'Dean Godsey. A lifelong resident of England, she was a graduate of the England School System and of Central College in Conway. She was a retired school teacher and a member of the First Baptist Church in England. She was born Nov. 5, 1907, in Carlisle, Ark., to Jacob E. Bogard and Vera Stephenson Bogard. She was a retired bookkeeper for General Waterworks Corp. in England, a member of Landmark Baptist Church and a Secretary and Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Linus L. Lee, Jr., Chula Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linus L. Lee, Sr., and one son, Jerry D. He was a retired farmer, loving husband, daddy, pawpaw and a wonderful friend. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lilly Rose Smith of the home. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Gentry Waymack; parents, eight brothers and three sisters. Survived by two brothers, Wes Waymack of Cabot, Willis Waymack of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mae Jackson and Alice Ball, both of Cabot. She was preceded in death by her sons, David, Rusty and Ronny Bredlow. She is survived by her husband, Russell S. Bredlow; two sons, Gary And Time Bredlow; two daughters, Jill Averitt and Ellen Anders; two sisters, Lucille Swann and Lois Hardin; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In keeping with Merle's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. She donated her body to UAMS to help others through medical research. Memorials may be given to the England Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society, the Heart Association or a charity of your choice. ENGLAND -- Martha Josephine "Josie" Henderson, age 93, of England died Saturday, May 30, 1998. She was born January 20, 1905, in Quitman, Arkansas. She was the daughter of George Henry Grable and Carrie H. Grable. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in England and a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors are one son, H.P.Henderson, England; one brother, Chester Grable, Hensley; one sister, Vaudia Smith, North Little Rock; eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Seldon Henderson; her husband C.D. "Doc" Henderson.
