BLACK DIAMOND Black Diamond is located in Miller County, Arkansas - Sulphur Township, about five miles Northeast of Olive Branch Church and about three miles North of Doddridge, Arkansas. The first settlers came as early as 1850. This small town became known as Black Diamond because of coal having been discovered there. A Mr. John Kennedy discovered the vein of coal. A railroad was built in 1894. It was called the T.S. N. - Texarkana, Shreveport, and Natchez. Two freight trains ran daily. Each train had a caboose, in which passengers rode. There was a small depot for passengers and freight. The T.S.N. built a spur from Black Diamond through the country side to bring logs from the huge Waldrop farm and other farms to the big sawmill. They had to build a turntable so it took a long time to build the T.S.N. The little train picked up the logs, carried them to Ft. Lynn, Arkansas to be cut into lumber. The saw mill at Ft. Lynn was large, it employed many workmen, where the men were given pay with different size colored chips to spend at the company's own commissary. Mr. Carl Bigby and Mr. J. E. Evers was in business together at Black Diamond, Mr. Bigby ran the Post Office until he moved to Doddridge and Mr. Evers bought him out, then Mrs. J. E. Evers run the Post Office. The Post Office was moved around 1900 to Doddridge, Arkansas.
