The territory was ceded to Spain by France in 1763. The Spanish governors made land grants. 2. Territory returned to France in 1800. 3. Louisiana Purchase - 1803-1812. 4. Missouri Territory - 1812-1819. 5. Arkansas Territory - 1819-1836. This included Oklahoma. The capital was at Arkansas Post - until it was moved in 1821 to Little Rock. 6. Statehood was granted on 15 June 1836. The 25th state. Arkansas was a slave state. 7. From 1825 to 1840 the Indians lived west of Arkansas and Missouri (95th meridian). 8. The Panic of 1837 caused people to move out of the older Southern and Eastern states and move to a new state.
