May 25, 1923 Surname: Maryman May 26, 1923 Texarkana, May 25 - News has been received here of the death this week at his home at Kress City, in Lafayette county of John B. Maryman, aged 80, a resident of that county for about half a century. He was a merchant and cotton planter, and was one of the best known residents of southwest Arkansas. He was born and raised in West Feliciana parish, near Jackson, La., moving to Arkansas in 1874. He served through the Civil war in the Confederate army and fought at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Port Hudson, Mobile and was with Joseph E. Johnston from Dalton to Atlanta. He and his brother, William were captured in August, 1864, and sent to Camp Chase, O., where they remained until the end of the war. This brother, William, died just a week prior to the death of John B. The latter was never married. He is survived by one brother, Judge Charles N. Maryman, of Bradley.
