Funeral services were held Dec 22, in Tucson, Ariz., for John L. Sweeney, age 79, a former Texarkanian who died Dec. 19 in Tucson. He was the brother of Leo T. Sweeney, of Texarkana. Mr. Sweeney, born Oct 22, 1887, was a member of a pioneer Texarkana family, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony B. Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney was the first store room manager for Hotel Grim in Texarkana and held that position for 16 years. He moved to Los Angeles in 1942 and served as manager of the store room of the Biltmore Hotel until his retirement in 1960. When he retired he moved to Tucson to live with his sister, Mrs. Mary E. O'Brien, the former Mary E. Sweeney of Texarkana, Arkansas. He was living with her at the time of his death. In addition to his brother here and his sister in Tucson, Mr Sweeney is survived by three brothers, Anthony B. Sweeney, of Shreveport, La., Joseph O. Sweeney, of Memphis, Tenn., and George E. Sweeney, of No. Hollywood, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sweeney, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, was buried from the St. Cyril's Catholic Church of Tucson, of which he was a member.
