The following is information taken from old newspaper clippings recently found. They pertain to the wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Sweeney to Michael D. O'Brien, on 20 November 20, 1917, in Texarkana, Arkansas. The newspaper is believed to be the "Daily Texarkanian". 1917 Sweeney - O'Brien On Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock a pretty wedding took place at St. Edwards Church, the bride being Miss Mary Elizabeth Sweeney and the groom, Michael Denis O'Brien, of Little Rock. A color arrangement of white and green prevailed in the decorations which were the artistic work of the Benedict- ine Sisters, white carnations being the flowers used on the altars along with green ferns. The bride was unattended save by her god-son, Joseph Murphy, who served as ring bearer. Entry was made by the bride and groom down the opposite aisles of the church, their progress leading to the altar, where they were met by Rev. M.J. Enright, who conducted an impressive nuptial mass. The bride's dark beauty was enhanced by a tailored suit of catawba broadcloth, fur trimmed, with taupe gray, hat, shoes, and gloves to match. She carried a prayer book in- stead of flowers. After the service, a wedding breakfast was held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony B. Sweeney, 406 Beech St,which was attended only by the near relatives. Here, white chrysanthemums in combination with ferns, were used charmingly as decorations. In the dining room, the wedding cake, a gift to the bride from Emile Platz, made a handsome ornament for the center of the table. This wedding is interesting to a large number of people in Texarkana, not only because the bride comes from one of the older families of the city, but because of the loveliness and sweetness of character of the bride, and there are many here who regret her going to live in another city, while wishing her all happiness. After the breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien departed for New Orleans, where they will spend their honeymoon. They will later reside in Little Rock. Mr. O'Brien has resided in Little Rock for the past ten years and is connected with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Submitted by: William A.
