Dear Lily:

          I just learned from the "Poetry Bulletin" of your generous gift of a 
prize in my honor. I am deeply grateful and mere words cannot express my 
appreciation and love for you. That I have had your friendship for so many 
years is a blessing and honor in it self - I remember so many happy occasions 
that we have spent together. Old age and illness have put me out of 
circulation. I have arthrites and high blood pressure so I am a stay at home 
from all that I used to love to do. My Dorothy is in the hospital after a 
second serious operation. The first removed one breast for cancer. This second 
performed last Friday was to find what was causing so much pain. I can only 
hope and pray that they found it and that it is not malignant. I wish I knew 
some of the many interesting things that you are doing. Write me sometime that 
you can manage it. Again my thanks and my love.
