Born February 19, 1918, in DeAnn, he was employed with Tol-E Tex Oil Company in Hope for 30 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hope and the widower of Lovenia Clark. Survivors include two sons, Dave Clark of Hope and Ricky Clark of Prescott; four brothers, Jim Clark, Reid Clark and James Clark, all of Hope and Dexter Clark of Crossville, Ill.; three sisters, Clora Willett of Hope, Norma Gielish of Eugene, Ore., and Nelda McMillen of Nashville; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Services were held Monday, February 5, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Scott Neathery officiating. Burial was in White Oak Grove Cemetery in DeAnn under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home. __________ Trudie Taylor Trudie Elizabeth Taylor, 86, of Sugar Land, Texas, died Friday, February 2, 1996, at Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas. Born September 20, 1909, in Slocum, Texas, she was the daughter of Dorsey Wren and Nancy Emmer Mitchell Barham. She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Sugar Land and the widow of Oba Lawrence Taylor. Survivors include a son, Earnest Barham Taylor of Sugar Land; a sister, Hazel Hurst of Hot Springs; and three grandchildren. Services were held Sunday, February 4, at the Garmany and Garden Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, Texas, with Bro. Ed Forrest officiating. Burial was Monday, February 5, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope under the direction of Garmany and Garden Funeral Directors of Rosenberg. __________ Lois Lane Lois Lane, 75, of Delight died Saturday, February 3, 1996, in Delight. Born October 1, 1920, in Prescott, she was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the widow of Dwight Lane. Survivors include six sons, Paul Lane and James Lane both of Delight, Thomas Lane of Paducah, Ky., Olen Lane and Joe Lane of Blevins and Benny Lane of Prescott; five daughters, Cathy Stuart of Texarkana, Texas, Mary Rutherford of Hope, Jeanie Rhodes of Blevins, Faye Wicker of Antoine, and Ruth Adams of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Evelyn Dickerson of Emmet, Christine Harris of Prattlville and Betty Cagle of Prescott; 30 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. __________ Samuel (Sam ) Leslie Samuel F. `Sam' Leslie, 40, of Blevins died Saturday, February 3, 1996, in U.T. Bowld Hosptial in Memphis, Tenn. Born August 7, 1955, in Nashville, Ark., he was a self-employed logger and a Baptist. Survivors include his mother, Alene Leslie of Nashville; two sisters, Patricia McClenny of Benton and Sandra Couturiaux of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Thursday, February 9, at Marlbrook Cemetery near Blevins with Lee Little officiating. Burial was under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott. __________ Minnie Ola Munn Minnie Ola Langston Munn, 88, of Fordyce died Sunday, February 4, 1996, in Dallas County Hospital in Fordyce. Born November 13, 1907, in Nevada County, she was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Munn and a son, Eugene F. Munn. Survivors include a daughter, Lavona Knight of Fordyce; two brothers, Jeff Langston of Hope and Milton Langston of Emmet; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Services were held Friday, February 9, in Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Wayne Langston officiating. Hooker, 83, of Prescott, died Tuesday, February 6, 1996, at a Prescott nursing home. Born September 15, 1912, in Schaal, he was the son of the late James A. and Nancy Elizabeth Williams Hooker, a member of Temperanceville Baptist Church of Nashville and retired from the upholstery businesss. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Hooker. Survivors include a brother, Eugene Hooker of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Inez Coleman of Nashville, Ann McCullough of Prescott, Lois Porter of Austin, Texas, and Mildred Jones of Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services and burial were Thursday, February 8, at Mineral Springs Cemetery in Mineral Springs with Bro. J.T. Hill officiating. Burial was under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Baptist Children's Home in Texarkana. __________ Henry B. Jones Henry B. Jones, 92, of Bluff City, died Saturday, February 10, 1996, at Pineview Nursing Home in Gurdon. Born August 15, 1903, in Smyrna, he was a self-employed mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dester Jones and a daughter, Vester Mae Jones. Survivors include three sons, Henry Lee Jones of Arkadelphia, Clifford D. `Casey' Jones of Phoenix, and Hesterly F. Jones of Hope; a daughter, Mildred Thomas of Maben, Miss.; a sister, Bessie Ogle of McNeil; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Graveside services and burial were held Sunday, February 11, at Ebeneezer Cemetery in Bluff City with Rev. Harold Jones officiating. Burial was under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funerl Home of Prescott. __________ Elizabeth Beaty Elizabeth Mae Beaty, 94, of Hope, died Wednesday, February 14, 1996. Born October 5, 1901, in Hope, she was a member of United Methodist Church of Emmet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Beaty Jr., a son, Joe Douglas Beaty and a daughter, Margie Reyenga. Survivors include a son, Dr. W.R. Beaty of Texarkana, Texas; a daughter, Mary Ella Martin of Laneburg; two brothers, Jack Mouser of Houston, Texas, and Charles Mouser of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Payton of Marble Falls, Texas, and Helen Ruth Hentika of Austin, Texas; and 16 grandchildren. Services were held Friday, February 16, at Shackelford Funeral Home chapel in Prescott with Rev. Joy Calicott officiating. Burial was in Snell Cemetery in Emmet under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home. Vernice Hubbard Vernice Bruce Hubbard, 88, of Hot Springs, formerly of Blevins, died Monday, February 12, 1996, in a Hot Springs hospital. She was a native of Blevins, but she had been a resident of Hot Springs for the past 20 years where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College, where she received a BSE degree with a major in elementary education and a masters degree. She did graduate study at the University of Arkansas and George Peabody in Nashville, Tenn. She had served as principal of the Prescott Elementary and Junior High Schools. She was a member of Arkansas Education Association, National Education Association, International Reading Association, the state and national Department of Elementary Prinicpals, Natioanl Council of Teachers of English and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a member of the state and national Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and served as secretary of the Arkansas ASCD. She was retired from the State Department of Education as reading specialist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hubbard. Survivors include two sisters, Lola Bruce Harris and Thelma Bruce, both of Hot Springs; and many nieces and nephews. Service were held Friday, February 16, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Hot Springs Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Bruce First United Methodist Church in Blevins. Eunice Butler Rev. Eunice Butler, 92, of Arkadelphia died Friday, February 2, 1996, in Riverwood Convalescent Nursing Facility in Arkadlephia. Born March 20, 1903, in Dallas County, he was the son of the late Mattie and William Butler. He was the widower of Mollie Lee Butler. He pastored many area churches, including Beulah Princeton, Holly Grove, Good Hope, Saint John, Harrison Chapel and Shady Grove Baptist Churches. He served as president of Section Number Two of the Greater Bradley District until his health failed. Survivors include his adopted son, John Lee Butler Jr. of Arkadelphia; and four grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, February 10, at Harmony Bible Missionary Baptist Church in Sparkman with Rev. Wallace Ingram officiating. Burial was in the Butler Family Cemetery in Sparkman under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Artie Lewis Artie Belle Lewis, 86, of Prescott died Sunday, February 18, 1996, at Hillcrest Care Center in Prescott. Born August 24, 1909, in Nevada County, she was a homemaker and attended the Assembly of God Church in Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Lewis. Survivors include a son, Doug A. Lewis of Hope; a daughter, Leada Mae Spencer of Prescott; a brother, Ottis Elmore of Little Rock; two sisters, Alta O'Rourke of Prescott and Carlee Cranford of Malvern; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, February 20, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott with Rev. Charlie Murphy officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Cale under the directon of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home. Mae S. Thomas Mae S. Thomas, 99, of Antoine died Monday, February 19, 1996, at her home. Born May 4, 1896, in Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late William Alfred and Isabell Martin Stubblefield. She was the president of Antoine Home Extension Club for 20 years, where she was instrumental in helping to start the Antoine Community Building and fire department. She also helped in getting the arch over the Antoine Cemetery gate. She was a member of Antoine Church of Christ and the widow of Joe. R. Thomas. Survivors include three sons, William Buford Thomas of Springfield, Ill., Fletcher E. Thomas of Antoine and North Little Rock, and Robert Neil Thomas of Redding, Calif.; a daughter, Betty Jo Bowdle, owner of Betty's Foral Shop in Prescott; two sisters, Vesta Roberts of Houston, Texas, and Gladys Nyberg of Carson City, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, February 22, at the Antoine Church of Christ with Wallace Alexander and B.B. Harding officiating. Burial will be in Antoine Cemetery under the direction of Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home of Arkadelephia. Family visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Antoine Church of Christ. __________ LULA WHITE HITT Lula White Hitt, 98, of North Little Rock died Monday, February 26, 1996, in Little Rock. Born in Prescott in 1898, she was the daughter of the late Sam T. and Lula Tamplin White. She attended Galloway College at Searcy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Hitt and a daughter Martha Margaret Hitt. Survivors include a daughter, Lula Jane Schriver of Lompoc, Calif., and three sons, Sam William Hitt of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Richard T. Hitt and Thomas C. Hitt of North Little Rock; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Memorial services were held Friday, March 1, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel in North Little Rock. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills. __________ MAHALA D. SMITH Mahala D. Smith, 87, of Little Rock, formerly of Nevada County, died Tues., Feb. 27, 1996, in St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. Survivors include a daughter, Nonnie L. Moss McKinney; a son, L.T. McQuay of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Alice Tucker and Cybil Docary, both of Falcon; a son, L.T. McQuay of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Services were held at Clevet Springs Baptist Church on Sat., March 2. Burial was in Clevet Cemetery. __________ WILLIAM B. GOURLEY William Bruce Gourley, 37, of Prescott died Feb. 16, 1996, in Medical Park Hospital in Hope. Born October 2, 1958, in Prescott, he was a Presbyterian. Survivors include his father, William Earl `Bud' Gourley of Prescott; his mother, Virginia Ann Gourley of Prescott; two brothers, Jack Allen Gourley of Holdenville, Okla., and Hansford Wayne Gourley of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and a sister, Judy Ann Ledbetter of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Services were held Feb. 18 at the Shackelford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Wayne Langston officiating. Burial was in Marlbrook Cemetery near Blevins under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. __________ LESTER L. MCLELLAND Lester L. McLelland, 84, of Dundee, Ill., died Thurs., Feb. 29, 1996, in Dundee. Born Fri., Mar. 31, 1911, in Nevada County, he was a construction worker and a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Lester C. McLelland of Mapleton, Ga.; three daughters, Pat McCorkle of east Dundee, Ill., Peggy Pringle of Carpentersville, Ill., and Wilma Louise Sschnell of Bartlett, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Burial was in Nubbin Hill Cemetery near Prescott. __________ CARRIE CLAYTON Carrie Haywood Clayton, 84, of Magnolia, died Sat., Feb. 24, 1996, in St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. Born October 11, 1911, in Eudora, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Johnnie V. Haywood and Willette Cason Haywood. She was a member of St. Phillip AME Church. She was a former teacher at Oak Grove School. Survivors include her husband, Rucker E. Clayton of Magnolia, and a brother, Robert Haywood of Detoit, Mich. Services were held Sat., Mar. 2, at St. Phillips AME Church in Magnolia with Rev. Ezell Branch Jr. officiating. Burial was in Twenty- Third Psalms Cemetery in Magnolia under the direction of Henderson's Mortuary in Magnolila. __________ MARGARET HOLLINS Margaret Blake Hollins, 54, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Willisville, died Sat., Feb. 16, 1996, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Born Nov. 5, 1941, in Willisville, she was the daughter of Ortha Mae Bailey and the late Blake Issaiah Blae. She received her diploma at Oak Grove High Scool in Rosston. She was a member of New Calvary COGIC and Faith Tabernacle. She served as Sunday school secretary and president of Mission at New Calvary. Survivors include her husband, Lee H. Hollins of Oak Grove; four daughters, Sheila, Barbara, Roshell and LaQuanna Hollins, all of Dallas; a stepson, Greg Hollins of Little Rock; her mother, Ortha Mae Blake; three sisters, Gracie and Irene Blake of Willisville and Essie Bell Stafford of Jonesboro; four brothers, Coy Ranyon, Floyd Blake, Robert Blake of Dallas, Texas, and Camelious Blake of Waldo; and eight grandchildren.
