He is a retired employee of the International paper Company and was a member and Elder of the Mt. Moriah Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Alabama Masonic Lodge at Laneburg and a native of Nevada County. He was the sonof the late Rev. H. C. Mann (sic) and Clorecia Daniels. (Buck) Whitten, 81, a former Nevada County resident, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Knox City, Tex., Methodist Church with the Rev. John Price of Abilene, Tex., the Rev. Jarrell Sharp of Knox City, and the Rev. Ray Elmore of Rule, Tex., officiating. Burial was in the Knox City Cemetery. Mr. Whitten, who died unexpectedly Thursday morning in a Knox City hospital had been in poor health for a number of years. He was born in the Rocky Mound community near Mount Moriah in Nevada County, Nov. 24, 1881, and married Miss Donnie Fore of the same community on Feb. 4, 1900. She died Dec. 23, 1949. On March 3, 1957, he married Mrs. Della Denison of Rule. He moved to Knox County, Tex., in 1909 and operated a farm northwest of Knox City for more than 50 years. Six years ago he moved to Rule. He was a member of the Knox City Methodist Church. Elkins of Prescott Drowned in Little Missouri River Prescott, Ark., May 26 --- J. D. Elkins, a pioneer citizen of Nevada County, was drowned in Little Missouri River. Mr. Elkins and a number of friends were out on a camping trip. They were fishing and had swam the river once. After they had crosse the stream, Mr. Elkins dared his companions to swim to the opposite bank. Dennis McClinton, who swam with him across the river, at once started across the stream. Mr. Elkins started to swim after Mr. McClinton and only made a few strokes when he went under. One of his companions went to rescue him and dragged him withi four feet of the bank when he kicked loose from him and sank. The body was recovered within less than an hour. Mr. Elkins was an old citizen of Prescott, and he leaves a family. ____________________________________________________________
