If not, maybe you can forward this or point me in the right direction. They were buried in what was known as "Dotson row," as shown here. Edmond Dotson born 1812 died 1889/90 Susanah Casey Dotson (wife of Edmond) born 1820 died after October, 1890 William Stephen Dotson (son of Edmond & Susanah) born 1842 died Jan. 1889 Mary Woodward Dotson (wife of William) born Sept. 13, 1840 died April 12, 1876 Pleasant Dotson (son of Edmond & Susanah) born 1850 Doctor Floyd (son of Edmond & Susanah) born Oct. 18, 1853 died July 6, 1873 Edmond and Susanah are the only ones listed in "Newton County Cemeteries." There Edmond is listed as General D. Edmond Dotson. As far as I can tell, he was never known as D. Edmond. He was, however, known as General but this was some kind of honorary title or nickname, not military. Also, the dates in the book for his birth and death were wrong. Supposedly, the only Dotson grave that had a marker was that of Edmond, the rest being in unmarked graves. These discrepancies inspired me to make a trip, with my husband, to Lonehill Cemetery in March of last year. What was supposed to be Edmond Dotson's tombstone was a large flat rock almost completely hidden from view by heavy brush. The crudely chiseled lettering was difficult to read, but it actually appeared to be the grave of his son, Doctor Floyd, and not that of Edmond. The inscription read: "DF DOTSON WAS BORND OCT 18 1853 AND DIED JULY 6 1873." The birth date would agree with the 1870 Federal Census, which listed Doctor Floyd as age 16. I later found that some have assumed that the inscription was D E Dotson, possibly leading to the use of "D. Edmond" in later listings. These graves were almost totally inacessible because of the thick overgrowth. Nancy Dotson Lamarr, granddaughter of Edmond and Susanah, was the last descendant who could identify each grave. She died on March 13, 1985, but sadly did not leave a record of this information. If you have any questions about this, please contact me. Virginia Brown
