Whiteley Cemetery, Boxley (Upper Buffalo Wilderness), Newton Co, Arkansas *********************************************************** Submitted by: Robert and Rosa Cline Date: 13 Oct 2007 Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** "Gone But Not Forgotten" Original Listing Oct 13, 2007 This is a COMPLETE listing of people with headstones interred at this cemetery. This was a really run down with no signs or notation of the cemetery even being here. Below are listed the actual transcriptions from the headstones then in ( ) under the transcriptions is data I researched online to try and learn who some of the unmarked graves might be. If anyone knows of family members buried here please let me know and I will add them here. Please note, many online researchers have children that are actually buried here, those researchers have them buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery down the road from this cemetery. But the below (unless noted) have a headstone here and this is their rightful resting place and not at Walnut Grove. Beside each name I have noted if I have a headstone photo ( hd pic ) If you would like me to share with you, or you share extra data please feel free to contact me. Please feel free to contact me. I hope this listing helps these people to always be remembered. To try and help folks to always be remembered when they have gone on before us is the main reason I do what I do. And helping folks find family or friends in the process is a good plus as well. DRIVING (HIKING) DIRECTIONS: Coming from Northwest Arkansas area: Follow Highway 412 through Huntsville, and Marble then you will turn to your right on Highway 21 driving toward Kingston. At the square at Kingston you will turn to your left continuing on Highway 21 toward Boxley. When you drive about 10 miles you will come to a sharp curve around to the right stay on Hwy 21 (turn to the left will take you to Ponca) Continue on Hwy 21 past Walnut Grove Cemetery and Boxley Church. Just about a mile or little over you will see the sign for "Buffalo Trailhead" Hiking Trail. You then turn to the right and park. You will see the remains of an old homesite when you first pull in to park. There will be a big sign that says "Upper Buffalo Wilderness" and descriptions of the various hiking trails etc. You will then walk up the dirt road (if you walk across the highway, that puts you on the actual Buffalo River Hiking Trail.) Just a little ways there will be a very run down road with a cable and a sign "no parking" and another sign stating that the hiking trails aren't marked. Cross this cable and hike up the hill on the run down road. The cemetery will be directly at the top of the hill. Total time it took my family and I to hike from the parking lot to the cemetery, photograph it, and return was about 20 minutes. So the walk time isn't that long, just uphill and unsteady terrain. Coming from Russellville or Harrison areas follow the highways to Historic Boxley Valley and then follow the directions above to get to the cemetery from Boxley. You can do an online research for the above listed Trailheads and you can get maps and driving directions from the various Forestry Service websites.
