On this 17 day of August, A.D. 1898, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, A. G. Bartlett, aged 40 years, a resident of Jerusalem, in the county of Conway and State of Ark whose Post-office address is the same: I am well and personally acquainted with Nancey E. Clark, the claimant and was also acquainted with Henry M. Clark and have been acquainted with them both since 1864 and can state positive that Henry M. Clark was never married to any person after the death of Elizabeth Clark until he married Nancey E. Clark the claimant and why I know these facts to be true is that I lived near them and often seen them and if such a thing had happened the facts would have been made known to me and I state further that his first wife, Elizabeth died at Lewisburg, Conway County, Arkansas on or about 24 May 1864. Why I knew she died there was just this they moved to Lewisburg Ark and shortly after they moved there we heard she was very sick and in a few days Sally Greer came up from there and brought Elizabeth's baby with her and kept it until it died and there was several others told me she was dead, but none of those witnesses is now living save one. I was well acquainted with Henry M. Clark first wife and I am as well satisfied that Elizabeth died as if I had been there and seen her breath her last breath and I state further that Nancey E. Clark has no property of record and has but very little persoanlly property and has no source of income for a support other than her own labor and that of her children. A. G. Bartlett
