The cemetery is located at the old town of Sayre. From Reader, go east on Sayre Drive off Hwy. 368 for almost one mile. Cross the old railroad bed (the railroad was dismantled in 2000), and take the second gravel road to the left (called Locklar St.). Go about 100 yards. A small cemetery containing two graves will be on your left. On the opposite side of the gravel road is a dim trail. Follow this trail for about 100 feet. The Hawkins’ graves will be on your right about 50 feet off the trail. One stone is standing and the other is broken and lying on the ground. Fred Hawkins, a descendant of these folks, tells me that Dr. Hawkins owned the stagecoach stop/hotel that was located here and was a popular rest stop. This record was made September 12, 2000 by Jerry McKelvy. Hawkins, Dr. I. – born 10-7-1819---died 10-15-1871 Hawkins, Martha A. – born 7-2-18??---died 11-10-1859 (?); stone is broken and lying on the ground. The years are hard to read due to the broken stone.
