Kornegay, whose untimely death on February 18, 1921, brought a very keen and sharp sense of grief and sorrow to an almost numberless host of friends was in every sense one of Phillips County's finest and most progressive men. Mr. Kornegay was born in Monroe County July 22, 1860, making him 60 years of age at the time of his death. He had been a resident of Good Luck community for very nearly 40 years, having come here when a young man, he established his home and later was married to Miss Matina Lightfoot, and at this home they had continously lived. In his childhood, he was not given the advantages of an education that many others have been given, but it may be truly said that he was one of the best educated men of the County. It was he who foresaw the need of a school here, and founded the Good Luck school district about 30 years ago, and had served as a member of the school board ever since. There was never a need at school, when Mr. Kornegay was not willing to shoulder his part to have the need adjusted, He was a firm believer in better educational advantages for the boys and girls and never tired in trying to show to the youth the greatness of taking advantages of the opportunities. He was always found doing his part toward enforcing the school laws, as well as all other laws of the State. It was largely through his influence and efforts that the Good Luck Club was able to win the supreme loving cups which were given in 1918 and 1920. He was a member of the Christian Church at Cypert, having united himself with that church several years ago. He was a member of Good Luck School Improvement Association, and to this organization, he did his part to see it grow and prosper. He was also a member of the Woodman of the World having come in as a charter member when the Good Luck Camp was organized about 15 ears ago. In former days, Mr. Kornegay was a great hunter, finding great pleasure in out-door sports and could intertain his listeners for hours telling of is big hunts and great kills. Mr. Kornegay had no children of his own, but his home was a home of the needy, those he cared for and gave them advantages of an education, fitting them out for life. Mr. Kornegay was a man among men--strong, vigorous and active in his splendid manhood--a true friend to all who knew him, a man devoted to his family; his work and his friends. Phillips County has lost in the person of Mr. T. M. Kornegay one of the finest and truest men. R. L. Slaughter ************************************************************************
