Burial was had at Mt. Tabor Cemetery Thursday, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. Col. Davis was a native of Pike County and had been one of its foremost citizens for many years, being perhaps the best known man in this section of the state. He has been a planter, merchant, and politican, and all of which capacities he was very successful. He was sheriff of Pike County for number of years. Funeral services were hald at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 in the First Christian Church for Mrs. Johnnie Bell Jackson, 85 of Longview, Texas. The Rev. Ralph Posey officiated. Burial was in the Murfreesboro Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home. Mrs. Jackson was born April 13, 1906, in Oklahoma, daughter of the late John Franklin Jones and Millie Darcus Lockeby Jones. She died Monday, Dec. 16 (1991) at a Longview, Texas, hospital. A former resident of Murfreesboro, she was a housewife and member of the First Christian Church at Murfreesboro. She was the widow of Andrew James Jackson, who preceded her in death on July 2, 1957. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Anne Jackson Diffey, who died Dec. 27, 1971, and Mrs. Herma Jean Jackson, who died Dec. 7, 1980. Survivors include: one son, Jack W. Jackson of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Judith Jackson Funderburk of Longview, Texas; three brothers, Earl Jones, Edward Jones and Lloyd Jones, all of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Grace Pearl Johnson of Garland, Texas, Lela Fern Hignight and Mildred Jones, both of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services were scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 in the First Christian Church for Ruby Evelyn Jones, 72. Bro. Ralph Posey and Bro. Evan Eubanks officiated. Burial was in the Murfreesboro Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Murfreesboro and Nashville. Mrs. Jones was born May 30, 1917, at Ozan, daughter of William Fred Schooley and Frannie Chism Schooley. She died Friday, Sept. 22 (1989) at a Hot Springs hospital after a lengthy illness. A resident of Pike County most of her life, she was a member of the First Christian Church. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Ivory Paul Jones, who died in November 1981. Survivors include: one daughter, Lorenda Cox of Murfreesboro; one sister, Frances Schooley of Hot Springs; three grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces. Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 23, 1912, at Umpire, daughter of the late William Pierce Davis and Gursey (Margared Levitine Gertrude) Turner Davis. She died Saturday, Dec. 24 (1988) at her home. She was a member of the First Christian Church at Murfreesboro. Survivors include: her husband, James Edward Jones of Murfreesboro; one son, Charles L. Jones of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Homer Davis of Murfreesboro and Charles Imon Davis of Snyder, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Neva Jane Lingo of Texarkana and Mrs. Lucille McLarty of Longview, Texas; and two grandchildren. Mr. Davis was born March 6, 1901 at Umpire, son of Farris Bernard Hempstead Davis and Lualice Delona Miller Davis. He died Tuesday, August 27 (1991) at a local nursing home. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church, Pleasant Valley Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, ElMaida Shrine and Valley Shrine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Victoria McCormack Davis, who died May 31, 1988. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sibyl Townsend Hair of Little Rock, and a number of nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church, P. O. Mrs. Davis was born October 13, 1886 at New Hope, Arkansas in Pike County, and died Saturday morning, April 17th, (1971) at a Murfreesboro nursing home. She was a member of the First Christian Church at Murfreesboro. The survivors include the husband, John C. Davis of Route 4, Nashville; one son, John M. Davis of Route 4, Nashville; two brothers, Willie Reid and Luther Reid both of New Hope; four sisters, Mrs. Callie Jones of Murfreesboro, Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Rockport, Texas, Mrs. Pearl Ransom of Delight and Mrs. Della Moore of New Hope; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
