Martin was born in Lawrence county, Ala. May 5, 1833. Martha Johnson Martin was born in Franklin county, Ala., April 12, 1837. They were married June 3, 1855, in 1859 they moved to Pope County. They have 10 children, all of whom are living, 6 boys and 4 girls. For many years Mr. And Mrs. Martin have been consistent members of the Missionary Baptist church. The names of their children follow: Lou Martin, their first-born, was born in Alabama, Oct. 7, 1857. She was married to Thos. A. Epperson Nov. 5, 1877. They had 6 children. Mrs. Epperson is now a widow and lives at London. Joe P. Martin was born Sept. 28, 1859. Married Laura Pless, April 20, 1880, they have 9 children. Joe P. is a prosperous farmer and makes his home in London. Belle Martin was born Jan. 13, 1862. Married E.C. Vinson May-1881. They have 5 children. Mr. Vinson lives 2 miles north of London and is also a farmer. George Martin was born July 19, 1864. Married M.A. Skinner, Nov. 4, 1886. They have 4 children. George has a mill, gin and store about 4 miles north of London. He also owns considerable real estate and is counted as one of the strongest men in the county. Lee G. Martin was born Nov. 11, 1866. Married Sarah E. Taylor, Nov. 12, 1888. They have 6 children. Lee is the merchant of the family. He has the largest store at London, besides being interested in milling and farming, Lee is full of energy and stands high in the financial world. J.N. Martin was born Aug. 9, 1869. Married Mollie E. Floyd, May 12, 1887. They have 5 children. Newt as he is generally called is also a farmer and interested in the saw mill business. He also finds time to serve his township in the capacity of constable. Mary Martin was born Feb. 8, 1872. Married Chas. L. Goodin. Nov 1, 1888. They have 9 children. Mr. Goodin lives at Gilmore, Ind. Ter. He is a farmer. Mrs. Goodin was unable to attend the celebration. Jess M. Martin was born March 1, 1877. Married Mollie E. Ferguson, June 18, 1902. They have one child. Jess M. is our deservedly popular circuit clerk, now serving his second term. He is very popular, and if rumors are to be credited, will be called on to serve his county in a position of yet greater honor and trust. He is mentioned as a formidable candidate for State Senator. A.L. Martin was born Feb. 15, 1879. Married Mary Epps, Jan. 12, 1896. They have 4 children. A.L. is a farmer and with his good wife and little family live at their comfortable home 4 miles north of London. Pinkie Martin was born March 30, 1882. She is unmarried, and the only child at home.
