He traveled from South Carolina to Tennessee to Arkansas before settling permanently. Transcription of the Young Bible Record Note: The family bible passed from Richard and Caroline Susannah Linam Chambers Young to Edward and Charlotte Angelina Bringle Scarlett Vaughan to Robert and Tabitha Vaughan Young to William Richard and Alta Haskins Young, with each lady adding bits of information. When James Allen and Katherine Vest Young of Russellville, Arkansas, received the bible, they had it preserved and restored and allowed me to make photocopies of the family records in the bible. Young Family Bible Note: Richard Young was born in 1805 in South Carolina. His eldest children by wife Pernesa Jane McKinley were all born in Tennessee. All that is known about Pernesa's family is that her mother was Nancy Miller McKinley. By 1841, Richard Young was in Pope County, Arkansas. His second set of children, by his second wife, Caroline Susannah Linam Chambers Young, were born in Pope County, Arkansas. Young former Alta Haskins died June 2, 1970 born Aug. 24, 1890 The Young family lived for some time, at least from 1830 to 1837 in Tennessee, for their first five children, Nancy Ann, William W., Samuel H., Isabella F., and John T., were born in Tennessee (Pope County Census Records and Family Bible). Three more children were born in Arkansas: Jarrett Madison b. 1839, Sarah F. b. 1842, and Mary Matilda Young b. 1844. Since Richard Young paid taxes in Pope County in 1841 and bought forty acres in the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 15 in Township 8 Range 20 West in 1841, Sarah F. Young and Mary Matilda Young must have been born in Pope County (Family Bible, 1841 Pope County Tax List, and Pope County Land Records). On October 2, 1845, in Pope County, Nancy Ann Young married Thomas Bowen b. 1817 in Virginia (Pope County Marriage Record A-87). Thomas Bowen had a brother, William Bowen, who came to Pope County with him. Within a year of Nancy’s marriage, her mother, Pernesa Jane McKinley Young, died on September 7, 1846 (Family Bible). It is not known where Pernesa is buried in Pope County. Signed, Jesse Mallory, MP On 2 June 1847, Richard Young married Caroline Susannah Linam Chambers (Pope County Marriage Record A-101). Lina Owens Boyd of Dover, Arkansas, shared with me the very interesting history of this woman. Caroline’s grandfather was George Linam, born 1746 in Delaware or Maryland. He was living in the 96th District, Union County, South Carolina, when the Revolutionary War started in 1775. George served in the war, beginning as a Private and working his way up to a Lieutenant and serving as a Quartermaster from South Carolina. George Linam married Mary (Mollie) Hodges, and they had seven children, Fanny, Sally, Elizabeth, Thomas, Charles, John Hodges, and William W. According to George Linam’s will, recorded May 1, 1815, he owned a large plantation in Union District, South Carolina. He left more than 1,500 acres of land and twenty slaves to his wife and children, reserving some acreage for the use of the mills. In his will, he left property and slaves to John Hodges, father of Caroline Susannah Linam Chambers Young. John Hodges Linam was born on October 28, 1787, in Union District, South Carolina. He married Judith Teague on January 21, 1801. Eight children were born in South Carolina: Sarah Ann, Frances Dorothy, Thomas Joshua, Caroline Susannah, Charles, Joice Brooks, George Washington, and Mary Elizabeth. About 1826, the Linam family moved to Lawrenceburg in Lawrence County, Tennessee. Five more children were born there: Lucy Malone, William James, John Wesley, Andrew Jackson, and Israel McKendree Linam. Caroline Linam, the fourth Linam child born in South Carolina, married first to James Chambers, b. 1814 in Tennessee, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, August 7, 1837. By 1840, James and Caroline Chambers had immigrated to Marion County, Arkansas. Their first child, John William Chambers was born there (Lawrence County, Tennessee, Marriage Records and 1840 Marion County Census, page 50, line 2, John William Chambers’s Military Record). By 1843, the James Chambers family was in Pope County, Arkansas (1843 Pope County Tax List). James C. Chambers served in the Mexican War in Major David West’s Company B, mustered July 1, 1846. James Chambers died in this conflict. Alexander Bringle, Martha Bringle Young’s brother, also served in Stirman’s Battalion. John W. Chambers, Caroline Young’s son, served in Company H of the 2nd Arkansas Infantry as a Private.
