Byrd Cemetery, Pope County, AR *********************************************************** Submitted by: Lina Boyd Date: 26 Oct 2008 Copyright. This is a family cemetery of one of old Reverend Mahlon Bewley’s son-in-law. Most of it has been washed away by the waters of the Illinois Bayou, with only six graves left. All have native sandstone markers, with no names or dates. In 1970, it was listed as all grown up and almost impossible to get to. I did not find this one. I assume that it is located across the Illinois Bayou at the lower end of the Bewley Hole. The creek has changed it’s course somewhat at the lowere shoal in the past few years. I did not attempt to cross the creek, so your guess is as good as mine as to the cemetery still being in existance. The only marriage listing I found in Pope County Marriage Records was: William BYRD age 18 to Rebecca BEWLEY age 19 on 07 Feb 1875 Book D page 372 Pope Co. This would be the daughter of Rev. Mahlan Bewley.
