USGS Quadrangle: Simpson, Ar., 1970 7.5' series Instructions for Reaching Site From Hector, take state Hwy. 27 north to Pope County road 51. After about 1 mile, take a left onto Pope County Road 20. After about 2 miles, take a right onto Pope County Road 21. After about 2 miles, take a left onto Forest Service road 1815. The cemetery will be located on the left and after about three quarters of a mile. This is an historic cemetery with approximately 127 graves. Nineteen of the graves have marked headstones. These were given alphabetic designations of A thru S on the site sketch map. Surnames are: Denny, Laymon, Jones, Keeling, Newport, Boyd, Gowen, Harris, Sherman, Weatherman, Johnson, Bailey and Reed. Burial dates recorded on marked headstones range from 1888 to 1935. The actual period of activity for this cemetery may range both earlier and later. The site is surrounded by a partially down "hog wire" fence. At some point in the past, two of the very large trees have been partially uprooted. Someone has cut these off but the stumps remain. These are maked as CS (cedar stump) inside of a circle on the sketch map. A hinge on a tree on the right side of the entrance indicates the presence of a former gate. All of the edges of the cemetery have become overgrown in Greenbriar and mixed species saplings, particularly the north and northwest sides. Historic vegetation includes Yucca and Iris.
