She was the daughter of William Stanley and Sarah Jane Garner Safley. She was a retired nurse and a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and the women's prayer fellowship. She was also a member of the Current Book Review Club, the Russellville Shakespeare Club, the American Association of Retired Persons, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Flying Needles Sewing Club, the Friendly Neighbors Sewing Club, the Democratic Women's Club, the Crochet Club, the Bridge Club and the Christian Women's Club. Her husband, James Winston Chapman, preceded her in death. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Brig. Gen. Robert E. Chapman and Helen of Shalimar, Fla.; one daughter, Charlotte Jane Shinn of Russellville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in McFadden Cemetery in Dover. (NWAR Morning News)
