WILLIAM DAVENPORT MIAMI, FLORIDA -- O. William Davenport, MD, 77, of Miami, Florida, passed April 15, 2003. Born in Braggs, Oklahoma, moved to Clinton, Arkansas at age eight. After high school, he rode Brahma Bulls in the Rodeo circuit. He joined the Army Air Corps 1944-1946. He graduated from University of Central Arkansas in 1948 and University of Arkansas Medical School 1952. Served a rotating internship at Baltimore City Hospital and John Hopkins. He was a Doctor for Alcoa & Reynolds Aluminum Co. in Bauxite, Arkansas. In 1956 he came to Miami, Florida for OB-GYN residency at Jackson Hospital Inc. and then went into private practice in Miami for 38 years. His professional activities include Past President of the following organizations; Florida Medical Association; Dade County Medical Association; South Central OB-GYN Society; Southern OB-GYN Society; Florida OB-GYN Society Founding member Student American Medical Association, Co-founder George Papanicolaou Cancer Seminar. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time at his hunting lodge, "The Last Resort" in the Big Cypress Preserve, which he and friends built themselves. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Hughes formerly of Benton, Arkansas; his son, William, an opthalmologist in Stuart, Florida; two grandchildren, Will and Holly; his mother, Lena Davenport; two sisters, Dot Peel and Dana Ruff, all of Clinton; and three nephews and one niece. Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas. Burial in the Clinton Cemetery. Arrangements being held by Roller-McNutt of Clinton.
