All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Obituary: Logan Holt Roots - Died at Little Rock, Ark., yesterday of congestion of the brain. He was a member of Congress from Arkansas in 1874. For sixteen years he was President of the First National Bank and prominent in political and financial affairs. He was a Director of the Iron Mountain Railroad. Col. Roots was Commander of the State Grand Army of the Republic, and had been a leading Republican for thirty years. He was Vice President of the National League of Republican Clubs. Col. Roots was the wealthiest man in Arkansas, and was well known as a financier. He was born in Perry Co., Illinois, March 21, 1841, and was graduated from the Normal University of that state. In 1862 he took an active part in raising troops for the war, and was appointed a Quartermaster, and subsequently served as Commissary of Subsistence with the rank of Colonel.
