Martha Lou Barton, 69, of Fayetteville died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

She was born April 19, 1937, at Bauxite, a daughter of Alvin Thomas and Mary Prudence Hicks Caple.

Mrs. Barton was a member of the Washington County Master Gardeners and a longtime member of the Fayetteville Farmers Market, where she served on the board of directors for many years. She was a member of Carnall Hall Alumni Group.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Virginia Caple.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Lionel Barton; three sons, James Thomas Barton and Steven Wayne Barton, both of Fayetteville, and John Andrew Barton of Magnolia; one daughter, Ann Elizabeth Barton of Fayetteville; one brother, Thomas Alvin Caple of Benton; and two grandchildren, Zoe Rose Barton and Eli James Barton, both of Fayetteville.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the funeral home.

Family comments: Her grandchildren were a particular joy in her life.
