All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Walter Bascom Bevens went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 6, 2005 in Midland, TX. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 11, 2005 in the Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Midland with Rev. David Nobles, officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 10, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the home of David and Bonnie Bevens, 3303 A Moss Ct. in Midland. He was born October 19, 1939 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Bruce Bascom and Ailyen Eidson Bevens. He was raised in Booneville, AR, Okmulgee, OK, and Boulder, CO. He married Ruth Elizabeth Scudder July 15, 1967 in Tucson, AZ. He received a B.A. in Geography, M.A. in History and Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and a Master of Philosophy in Middle East Studies from the University of Utah. He taught at all levels- elementary, secondary school, and college in Texas, Arizona, California, Kentucky, and North Carolina. He wrote and published social studies curriculum for Accelerated Christian Education Christian schools. He also traveled extensively for pleasure and on fellowships, and taught ESL in the Middle East, as well as South Korea. His contagious humor, caring spirit and enlightening intellect enriched and encouraged everyone who knew him, especially his family. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife. He is survived by two sons, David and his wife Bonnie, and Bill all of Midland; a half-sister Virginia White and her husband Bartow of Benton, AR, and a half- brother Bruce Boswell Bevens of Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you for the ministering love exhibited by members of the Stephen Department and others at First Baptist Church where he was a member, Home Hospice, and Diana and Larry Mitchell of Country Acres Home Care, where he spent his last days.
