All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Gussie M. Cox, 80, of Little Rock passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002. She was born Dec. 18, 1921, to Tom and Lillian Farr in Hodges, Ala. Before their marriage, Otis Cox would ride his mule three miles to see Gussie. He tied the mule to a pole and it would walk circles around the pole until the date was over, and before they were married, the mule had walked a 6-inch hole in the ground waiting for Otis. Gussie and Otis picked cotton to earn enough money for a train ride to honeymoon with kinfolks in Bauxite, Ark., and their honeymoon dinner consisted of only bananas. Gussie and Otis were married 64 years. She was a loving wife and mother, and a member of the Baseline Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Cox Gray; a brother, Milford Farr; and a sister, Ovie Lee Rowe, Gussie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Otis Cox; two daughters, Alice King of Mississippi and Sue Cox of West Helena, Ark.; two sisters, Jewell Sullivan of Mayflower and Gertrude Garner of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Haston Farr of Fullerton, Calif., and Archie Farr of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including Jimmy Rowe, who was also her caregiver. A gathering in remembrance of Gussie M. Cox will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, with Brother R.W. "Buddy" Keese officiating.
