She was born March 2, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., to Vivian and I. J. Steed. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock. She was active in Girl Scouts, school activities, church choir, Sunday school teacher for children and youth, United Methodist Women and other church activities, director and teacher at the Darnall School, and secretary at the Cabot Public Schools. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, James B. “Jim” Gannaway; three loving daughters, Sharon S. Gannaway and her friend Michael Torok of Eden Prairier, Minn., Vivian G. Walker and her husband Clifford Treese of Pleasanton, Calif., and Linda L. Gannaway of Fresno, Calif.; two grandsons, Erik Treese and his wife Karole Lakota of Chicago, Ill., and Michael Tresse of Chicago; brother Charles “Pinky” Steed and his wife Fran of Little Rock; sister-in-law Demetra Gannaway of Little Rock; brother-in-law Tommy Thompson of Alexandria, Va.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, including three special friends, Alexis, Clark, and Lewis Faupel of Cabot. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Vivian Thompson. A memorial service was held at St. Paul United Methodist church, 2223 Durwood Road, Little Rock, AR 72207, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, with a reception at the church immediately thereafter. Visitation was also at St. Paul United Methodist Church from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17. Private burial, family members only. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Little Rock, or Cabot Untied Methodist Church, 2003 South Pine, Cabot, AR 72023, or charity of choice. The family would like to thank all employees at Presbyterian Village Retirement Center of Little Rock, for their love and care during Sarah’s residence there. Also, the family is deeply grateful to Dr. Thomas Sneed and the staff at Arkansas Oncology Associates, Little Rock, to Arkansas Baptist Hospice, and to Dr. Pat Osom of Little Rock for their wonderful love and care.
