She was 85. Born July 5, 1921, in Memphis, she was a daughter of Gertie Bee Henderson Brown. She was the widow of Dodge Holland. Mrs. Holland worked as a seamstress for many years, doing alterations in her home and also for a local dry cleaning business. She made many pageant gowns for Benton High School girls. While working as a seamstress in Memphis, her customers included entertainer Johnny Cash. During their years in Benton, the Hollands served as volunteer youth counselors for the United Methodist Youth group at Benton's First United Methodist Church. Her membership remains in that congregation. Both were active in community groups, including Churches Joint Council on Human Needs, which formed under the leadership of Dodge Holland and the Rev. Bob Walton. After her husband's death, Mrs. Holland eventually moved to Whispering Pines elderly housing complex, where she served as resident assistant. Survivors include one son, Dane Holland of California; one sister, Anne Ruth Kirchoff of Memphis; and one brother, Bob Brown of Texas. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at New Rosemont Memorial Park with Dr. Ed Hollenbeck officiating.
