All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Raymond “Jimmie” James, 73, of Farmington, Minn., formerly of Benton, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006. He was born March 14, 1933, at St. Charles in Arkansas County, the son of Joseph and Lula James. Mr. James served in the Korean War from July 5, 1951, through July 1, 1955. He was assigned to the USS Chevalier, a destroyer, with his most significant duty assignment at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Atsugi, Japan. He received the United Nations Medal, Korean Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asia Clasp), China Service Medal (extended) and National Defense Service Medal. He married wife Marvalene on Sept. 3, 1955, in Bell, Calif. They lived in California for 20 years before moving to Benton, where they resided for another 20 years. They relocated to Farmington in 2001. In California, James worked as a foreman for Allied Chemical in the production of commercial plastics. He transferred to Des Plaines, Ill., in the 1960s to set up a plastics plant and was sent to Morristown, N.J., as a troubleshooter for Allied Chemical. He worked as a superintendent of the Benton Street Department until his retirement in May 1989. He was a member of Farmington Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard James and Joseph James; one sister, Lula Mae James Johnson; and a nephew, Richard James. Survivors include his wife; one sister, Ida James Keithley of Sherman, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of White Funeral Home of Farmington, Minn. Interment was at Fort Snelling in St. Paul, Minn. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Ill., 60601-7633. Family comments: Ray was a loving husband, wonderful friend and hard-working man who enjoyed having fun. His wife, Marvalene, was at his bedside when he died. They had loved each other for more than 50 years.
