He was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Quitman to Fay Johnson of Little Rock and Lenore Hatchett Johnson of Conway. Mr. Johnson was an avid reader, writer and professor at the University of Arkansas and several other institutions. He grew up in Conway and served in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Susie “Akiko” Johnson; two sons, Jason M. Johnson and wife Heather and Wilson “Wil” Johnson, all of Eureka Springs; one stepson, Mike Farris and wife Nena of Benton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Eddwin Johnson and wife Gina of Pennsylvania; one half brother, Gary Johnson and wife Lori of Virginia; his former wife, Phyllis Johnson of Eureka Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, a niece, cousins. A gathering of remembrance of Jim's life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Pavilion A. at Petit Jean State Park. Memorials may be made in James Johnson's name to the University of Arkansas English Department, 333 Kimpel Hall, Fayetteville, AR 72701. Condolences to the family may be mailed to P.O.
