All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** - from Benton Courier Obit Dr. Robert "Bob" Eugene Jones, 80, of Benton died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Bauxite to Dr. Curtis W. and Rosina Nelson Jones. Dr. Jones began his medical career in Benton. He spent two years overseas during the Korean War. He served in both the Navy and Army. Following his discharge from the service, Dr. Jones resumed his medical career in Marshall, Texas. He later returned to Benton to practice with his father and brother, Dr. Curtis W. Jones Jr., at Jones Clinic on South Market Street in Benton. Dr. Jones was valedictorian of the Benton High School Class of 1944. He performed undergraduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans, La., and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock in 1951. In addition to his family practice, Dr. Jones spent several years as a medical director with the Arkansas Department of Correction. After retiring from his private practice, he accepted a position with the Arkansas Human Development Center at Conway. He held that position until his death. Dr. Jones was a Rotarian and of the Episcopal faith. He was an Eagle Scout. He was an expert in Civil War artifacts, and his hobbies included metal detecting and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances “Mickey” Harper Jones. Other survivors include two sons, Eric Jones of Ardmore, Okla., and Bryan Jones of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; one daughter, Gretchen Jones Davis and husband Tracy of Benton; two brothers, Dr. Curtis W. Jones Jr. of the Avilla community and Dr. William “Bill” Jones of Little Rock; and one granddaughter, Allie Davis of Benton. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Wright officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
