All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** - from Benton Courier Obit James "Russell" Porter, 91, of Benton, formerly of Quitman, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006. He was born April 18, 1915, in Cleburne County. Mr. Porter lived in Quitman until five years ago, when he moved to Benton to be closer to his daughter. He was a farmer, former Ward Body Works employee and former employee of the Quitman School District. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Quitman, where he served for several decades. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beecher and Emma Porter; six brothers; one sister; and one son-in-law. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lila Bettis; one daughter, Joyce Fullington of Benton; one son, Hulon Porter and wife Helen of West Helena; five granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Garner Porter of Cabot; and many lifelong friends in the Cleburne County area. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Quitman United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Heber Springs. Arrangements are under the directions of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the church.
