Carmel Chuch, Alexander circuit, is bereaved in the death of Sister Russell, wife of our brother, Alexander Russell, of Saline County. With her father, Mr. Nelson, she came to our State from North Carolina, in 1829; married August 25, 1860; was converted first Sunday in October, 1849, at the old Scott camp-ground, where hundreds, perhaps have entered into spiritual life. She, with her husband, united with the church in October, 1850. Had she lived another year they would have reached their fiftieth wedding day, to which they looked with great pleasure. But alas! for human expectations! On the 25th inst. she was called to the "marriage supper of the Lamb." She was a good woman. Her Christian character was well developed. Her convictions were deep and abiding. Her life was an even spun thread. She was a woman of deep religious feeling, yet she was master of herself and "ruled her own spirit." Her home from the beginning of her housekeeping has been the resting place for ministers. Many a weary itinerant has sat at the table spread by her hands and reposed in her bed chambers. We shall hear her Christian greeting no more on earth, but we shall meet again. On Saturday, the 25th, a large concourse of neighbors and sympathizing friends met at the church where the funeral service was conducted by the writer, assisted by her pastor, Bro. Baird, and her near neighbor Bro. Cline, who was with the family when she passed away and who closed her eyes when the end came. Bro. Russell and his sons, all married, are on the way to join the wife and mother, and are feeling all the pangs of an earthly bereavement, but are submissive and would not have it otherwise, and are saying in their hearts and by their conduct,"Not my will, but Thine be done." "Welcome, then, hope-chastened sorrow, Soon the night will pass away; We shall meet in joy tomorrow, Though we part in tears to-day." ANDREW HUNTER
