Dorsey L. "Tom" Thompson, 80, of Benton died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006.

He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Durham, N.C.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Avilla Zion Lutheran Church and a World
War II veteran, having served in the Navy. He was a former owner of Tire
Town in Benton.

He was preced in death by his parents; one son, Conrad Hartman; and one
sister, Geraldine Wagner.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Kitty Thompson of Salem; two
sons, Dr. Steven Thompson and Michael Hartman, both of Salem; two
daughters, Cindy Adams of Salem and Tammy Henthorne Barnes of Avilla; nine
grandchildren, Corrina Tedford, Carla Shellnutt, Flint Adams, Clark
Henthorne, Will Thompson, Ian Adams, Caitlin Henthorne, Hannah Adams, and
Sophie Thompson; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and
friends.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Avilla Zion Lutheran
Church, with the Rev. Roland Schutz officiating. Burial will be in Avilla
Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Roller-Ballard Funeral
Home.
