Wise, age ninety-one years, died Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Loren Wise, eight miles west of Benton. Mr. Wise had been feeble for some time. He was for many years a resident of the Salem neighborhood, was one of the county's most substantial citizens and beloved by a legion of friends. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Delta Anderson of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Ethel Kerr and Mrs. Zenia Beaty, both of Benton; two sons, Loren and A.G. Wise, both of Benton, and several grandchildren. Mr. Wise was one of the oldest Confederate veterans in Saline county, a member of Company 'C' Second Mississippi Regiment, Gen. Bee's Brigade, Heath Division, A.P. Hills, Confederate Army, W. Va. He was in the battles of Williamsburg, Frazier's Farm, The Seven Days, Sharpsburg, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg and Spottsylvania Court House, Va., and Gettysburg, Pa. He was wounded four times. Mr. Wise was a charter member of Benton Lodge No. 34, Free and Accepted Masons. Funeral services were held at Salem Camp Ground Thursday afternoon at one o'clock in charge of Rev. L.R. Sparks of Bryant. Interment at Scott Cemetery, With the Masons in charge.
