After prayer meeting the church went into Conference. 1st by Motion elected Bro. J.A. Davis Moderator. 2 Called for reading of the last minutes. Was read and adopted. 3 Peace and Fellowship was called for. All in peace. 4 Called for Acknowledgements. None. 5 Called for Miscellaneous or unfinished business. The Church agreed by a Move and Second that we represent the Massadonia Association and elected Bro. J.A. Davis and T.B. Johnson as delegates to represent the Union Hope Church in the Massadonia Association. Bro. Thompson and W.E. Hunter as Alternates. 6 The Clerk was ordered to write a letter to the Massadonia Association. 7 By Motion the Church adjourned but Conference left open until Sunday. 8 On Sunday morning after preaching by Bro. B.T. Johnson and W.E. Hunter the Church continued in Conference. 9 The Association letter was read and adopted. In the letter we asked to be received into the Massadonia Association with the promise of a Letter from the Concord Association at a convenient time. 10 By Motion Elected Bro. A.J. Coburn and W. Boney to represent us in the Concord Association with a request by the Church to call for a letter from the Concord Association. 11 The Clerk was requested to write a letter to the Concord Association. Boney Clerk Protem. 5th Called for the reading of the Past Minutes. Minutes not being present the same deferred till next meeting. 6th Called for Acknowledgments and Sister Caldonia Parson made acknowledgments by letter presented by Sister Mary Taylor. Acknowledgments received and letter granted to the Sister and the Clerk requested to write and forward the same. 7th Called for the Peace and Fellowship of the Church. Charges preferred against B. William Thompson for the sin of Revelry by opening the doors for a dance and the same carried on in his dwelling and the Bro. being present, failing and refusing to make any Acknowledgments or to give the church satisfaction the Church withdrew Fellowship from the Bro. 8th Charges preferred against Sister Taylor and Sister Olliver for the sin of Dancing and the same deferred until next meeting and Bro. W.E. Hunter and J.A. Davis appointed a committee to wait on Sister Mary Taylor and the Clerk requested to notify Sister Adline Oliver by written notice of the charges against her. Rumored to the Church that Sister Tip Dickerson and Sister Scott had been committing the sin of Dancing and the Church having reason for believing the same, the same deffered till next meeting and the Church requested to look after that matter and report the same at next meeting. 9th Unfinished or new business. By motion the church elected Brother [Page 59] McLain as deacon for the Church as he had been Ordained to that work in former days. 10th Motion to adjourn which prevailed. None received. 3rd Called for reading of the last minutes. Was read and adopted. Also December minutes was read and laid over until the next meeting for adoption. 4th Committee was called for which was Brothers Davis & Hunter. Report was received & discharged. 5th Move and Second that the Church withdraw their fellowship from Sister M.E. Taylor for the sin of dancing was carried. Also the same with Sister Adline Oliver for the sin of Dancing. 6th Charges preferred against Sister M.B. Scott by motion was continued until next meeting. [No page 69 or 70] Page 71 We the Missionary Baptist Church of Union Hope adopt the following as our rules of Decorum. 1. The officers of the church shall consist of a Pastor, Deacon and Clerk. Said pastor and clerk shall be chosen and elected by the Church once a year for the period of 12 months. 2. It shall be the duty of the Church to meet once in each month of the year in conference meetings to transact business for the Lord and for the watch, care and protection of her members. 3. It shall be the duty of the Moderator to announce the church in conference at each stated meeting to transact such business as may become necessary for her to transact, inviting visiting brethren of the same faith and order who knowing themselves to be in good standing to seats with us in counsel but not to vote. 4. It shall be the duty of the church to take the communion in remembrance of Jesus Our Lord once a year. The stated time on the Second Sabbath in May in each year. 5. It shall be the duty of each male member to attend meeting at least once in and during three months. 6. Any member male or female who shall be guilty of the sin of dancing or participating of or in the same in any way shall by the church considered disorderly members and shall be dealt with by the church at her discretion. Page 72 7. It is hereby held and considered by the church to be disorderly for any member to engage in or participate in any way in what is so called social party. 8. It shall be considered disorderly for any member to take the name of God in vain by cursing and swearing or by using any bywords that in their common acceptation would be considered unbecoming for a Christian to use or speak. 9. It shall be considered disorderly for any member to drink any intoxicating spirits to an excess or to participate or engage in any way in what is known as revelry. 10. Any member violating the above rules or any part thereof shall be by the church considered disorderly and shall be dealt with by the church at her discretion. 11. The majority shall rule in all cases except in the reception of members which shall be unanimously. 12. No question shall come before the church for discussion unless it be presented by Motion and Second. 13. Any member desiring to speak shall rise to his feet and address the Moderator. 14. No member shall speak more than once on any question unless by the consent of the church. 15. No member shall be granted a letter from the church longer than six months unless it be some member or members who are moving from the country. 16. We the Missionary Baptist Church of Union Hope adopted the following as our rules of Decorum 1. The officers of the Church shall consist of a Pastor, Deacon and Clerk. Said pastor and clerk shall be chosen and elected by the church once a year for the period of 12 months. 2. It shall be the duty of the church to meet once in each month of the [year] in conference meetings to transact business for the Lord and for the watch, care and protection of her members. 3. It shall be the duty of the moderator to announce the church in conference at each stated meeting to transact such business as may become necessary for her to transact, inviting visiting brethren of the same faith and order who knowing themselves to be in good standing to seats with us in counsel but not to vote. 4. It shall be the duty of the church to take the communion in remembrance of Jesus our Lord once a year, the stated time on the second Sunday in May in each year. 5. It shall be the duty of each male member to attend meeting at least once in and during three months. 6. Any member male or female who shall be guilty of the sin of dancing or participating of or in the same in any way shall by the church [be] considered disorder[ly] by members and shall be dealt with by the church at her discretion. 7. It is hereby held and considered by the church to be disorderly for any member [Page 249] to engage in or participate in any way in what is so called social party. 8. It shall be considered disorderly for any member to take the name of God in vain, by cursing and swearing or by using any bywords, that in their common acceptation would be considered unbecoming for any Christian to use or speak. 9. It shall be considered disorderly for any member to drink any intoxicating spirits to an excess or to participate or engage in any way in what is known as revelry. 10. Any member violating the above rules or any part thereof shall be by the church considered disorderly, and shall be dealt with by the church at her discretion. 11. The majority shall rule in all cases, except in the reception of members, which shall be unanimous. 12. No question shall come before the church for discussion unless it be presented by motion and second. 13. Any member desiring to speak shall arise to his feet and address the moderator. 14. No member shall speak more than once, on any question unless the consent of the church. 15. No member shall be granted a letter from the church longer than 6 [blank] unless it be some member or members who are moving from the country. 16. The church shall have the power to alter or change or amend the above and foregoing rules at her discretion. 17.
