Descendants of Abraham and Catherine (Nichols) McKay were in Scott County. ================================================================= State of Georgia} County of Union} On this 2nd day of November 1850 personally appeared before me Andrew Young, a Justice of the inferior Court in and for the County and State aforesaid Abraham McKay, age 66 years, a resident of Union County State of Georgia who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Abraham McKay who was a private in the Company commanded by Capt. John Netherton in the Tennessee foot volunteers, commanded by Col. William Lillard in the war with Great Britton, declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that he volunteered at Newport Cock County in the State of Tennessee or or about the seventeenth day of October 1813, for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of four months, and was Honourably discharged at Newport, Cock County in the State of Tennessee on or about the 17th day of February 1814 as will appear by refference to the muster roal which discharged has bin lost or misplaced so as I can not find it in my possession and he makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled to under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who has bin engaged in the Military service of the United States passed September 28th 1850. Abraham McKay Sworn to and subscribed before me this day and year above written and I hereby certify that I believe the said Abraham McKay to be the identical man who served as aforesaid & that he is of the age above stated. Hughes, Clerk of the Superior Court in & for said County do hereby certify that Andrew Young is one of the Justices of the Inferior Court in and for said County duly commissioned and sworn and full faith and credit is due to all his official acts and the same appears in his usual hand riting. Hughes, C.S.C. ===================================================================== No. 13275 TREASURY DEPARTMENT, Third Auditor's Office, March 19th, 1851 It appears from documents on file in this Office, that Abraham McKay, a Private of Captain John Netherton's Company of Tennessee Militia, entered the service on the 17th October 1813 for 3 mo., and served till the 8th February 1814, the date of his discharge. On this 16th day of May A.D., one thousand eight hundred and 55 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Abraham McKay aged 71 years, a resident of Cocke county, in the State of Tennessee, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Abraham McKay who was a private in the company commanded by Captain John Netherton in [blank] Regiment of Ten. Militia commanded by Col. William Lillard in the War between the United States & the Creek Indians, 17th day of Oct. 1813 & volunteered for the term of 3 months and continued in actual service in said war for fourteen days; that he has heretofore made application for Bounty Land under the act of 28th of Sept. 1850 and received a Land Warrant No. not known for 40 acres which he has since legally disposed of and cannot now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose the additional Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March 1855. He also declares that he has never applied for, nor received, under this or any other act of Congress, any Bounty Land Warrant except the one above mentioned. On this twenty fifth day of May A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, personally appeared before me, J.F. Stanbery, Clerk of the Circuit Court, a Court of Record within and for the county and State aforesaid, Abraham McKay, aged eighty seven years, a resident of the County of Cocke, State of Tennessee, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is married; that his wife's name was Cathrine Nicols, to whom he was married at Cocke County, on the tenth day of May 1812; that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States in the war of 1812; that he is the identical Abraham McKay who enlisted in Captain John Netherton's company, Col. Wm. Lillards regiment, Gen. John Coers(?)division, in Newport, Tenn., on the [blank] day of October 1813, and was honorably discharged at Camp Ross, Tennessee on the [blank] day of January 1814; that he was a teamster and was stationed during his term of service at Fort Armstrong, Ala., and that his discharge was either lost or filed in the Gen. Land Office at Washington, that he, at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort, or exercised the function of any office whatever under any authority, or pretended authority, in hostility to the United States; and that he will support the Constitution of the United States; that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the provision of the act approved February 14, 1871, and he hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, A.J. Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; that his post office is at Parrottville, County of Cocke, State of Tenn; that his domicile or place of abode is Cocke County, Tenn. Attest: John Kenyon Robert McKay Also personally appeared John Kenyon, residing at No. [blank] in [blank] street, in [blank] and Robert McKay, residing at No. [blank] in [blank] street, [blank], persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say: They were present and saw Abraham McKay, the claimant, sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be; that at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States did he adhere to the cause of the enemies of the Government, giving them aid or comfort; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Mil. Reg't. Residence: Cocke County, Tenn. Post office address: Parrotsville, Cocke County, Tenn. Enlisted Oct. 17, 1813, discharged Feb. 8, 1814 Declaration and identification in due form, filed June 3, 1871. Service for sixty days, shown as follows: Report from Third Auditor shows that Abraham McKay served in Capt. John Netherton's Co. Tenn. Mil. From Oct. 17, 1813 to Feb. 8, 1814. Length of service, 115 days. Claimant declares he is not a pensioner under any previous act. Name not on list of pensioners. Loyalty, claiman's averment and testimony of Jno. Kenyon and Robt. McKay. Cred. of wit. cert. of J.C. Larue, P.M. at Parrotsville, Tenn. Oath to support the Constitution of the United States subscribed. H.Cartung, Reviewer. =================================================================== WAR OF 1812 Department of the Interior, Pension Office, Oct. 20th, 1871 Sir: You are respectfully requested to furnish official evidence of the enrollment, muster, service, and duty of Abraham McKay, who enlisted at Newport, Tenn., on the [blank] day of October 1813, in Captain John Nethertons Company [blank] Regiment, and who was discharged at Camp Ross, Tenn. on the [blank] day of January, 1814. If the above name is not found on the rolls of said Company, will you so state, and report as to enrollment &c., in the case of any man bearing a similar name, whom you have reason for believing to be the soldier inquired for. You are required to show by the certificate of an officer of a United States Court, a United States Commissioner, an Assessor, Assistant Assessor, Collector, Deputy Collector or Supervisor of Internal Revenue, or a Postmaster, to the satisfaction of this Office that, after careful investigation, he is convinced the above witnesses are men of undoubted good character for truth and veracity, and that their statements in the affidavit referred to are worthy of full faith and credit.
