She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Maxey of Waldron; one son, Billy Maxey of Mena; one sister, Corine White of Tulsa, Oklahoma four brothers, Lenard Cockburn of Springfield, Oregon, Roy Lynn Cockburn of Harvey, Arkansas, C.L. Markum, 90, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma died Wednesday, September 26, 2001 in Broken Arrow. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper, a member of Berean Baptist Church of Tulsa and the widow of Eric Markum. Graveside services were held at 2 pm Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Duncan Cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. She is survived by 4 nieces, Joy Holleman of Parks, Georgina Goolsby of Stockton, California, Dorothy Taylor of Willard, Missouri and Betty Clark of Texas; one nephew, James Elwyn McCafferty of Parks; and several great nieces and nephews. ====================================================================== Scott County Times 10 October 2001 KENNETH HINES Kenneth Ray Hines, 63, died in his home on October 1, 2001. He was born on March 21, 1938 in Waldron to the late Othel L. Hines and Foy Inez (Gibbs) Hines. He married Betty Ann Millard on March 3, 1978. Shortly after their marriage they purchased the Scott Theater in Waldron where he spent much of his childhood as an usher and ticket taker. He followed in his fathers footsteps and became a respected sign painter. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held at 2 pm, Thursday, October 4, 2001 at the Waldron First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Cooper and Rev. Pat Ray Biggs officiating. Interment followed at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Waldron; five daughters, Connie Willis of Osceola, Missouri, Nancy Stuart and Becky Haga, both of Waldron, DeeAnna Smalley of Kansas City, Kansas and Johnnie Hines of Fort Scott, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jenik of Colby, Kansas and Linda Barnett of Waldron; plus a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Webb was retired from Rheem, a member of Harvest Time Tabernacle, a volunteer at the Miller Branch Public Library and a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Watkins. She was born September 5, 1913 in Ladonia, Texas, the daughter of Francis Marion and Polly Jane Martindale Holt. She was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Fort Worth and retired from Fort Worth National Bank. She was the widow of Jena Miller and C.B. Burdine. In addition to her parents and husbands, one daughter, Joni Claudene Sims Hornell of Fort Worth; one son, Roger Dean Miller of Santa Fe, NM and one grandson, Michael Miller of Shamrock, TX, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Dayton Baptist Church. Mrs. Efurd was born August 23, 1905 in Johnson County before moving to California where she lived for several years. She returned to live in Arkansas after marrying her late husband, Jack J. Efurd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Efurd, a son Donald E. Akerlind, Sr., her parents, Francis M. and Nancy Hurt Williams, brothers Tommy, Jessie, Willie and Earl, sisters Elsie and Ruby. Mrs. Efurd is survived by three step-sons, Ronnie K. She was our mother, grandma and best friend and will be sorely missed. ======================================================================== Scott County Times 24 October 2001 DONA CONLEY Dona Conley, born on August 15, 1930 [sic] in Cantralia, Illinois to Graffin and Marie Frost Rogers, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2001 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 62. Dona is survived by her mother, Marie Frost Rogers; daughter Brenda Conley; son David Conley and wife Sharron; sister Patsy Wagner and husband Arnold; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Forest Park The Woodlands Chapel on Tuesday, October 2, 2001. Interment followed at Forest Park the Woodlands Cemetery. Dona lived with her mother, Marie Frost Rogers, in the Boles community from 1991 to 1999. While in Scott County Dona was a member of the Boles Extension Homemakers Club, the Boles Community Center Board of Directors, and the Scott County Democratic Women. She performed countless hours of volunteer service and research at the Scott County Historical and Genealogical Society. Graveside service was at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2001 with Rev. David Boggs officiating at Kirk Cemetery in Cauthron, AR. Born June 23, 1939 in Mena, he was the son of Floyd and Bessie Isom Cossey. He served in the U.S. Army, was a truck mechanic and was a member of House of Worship near Hindsville. He married in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Lily Main Cossey of the home; a son, Terry L. Hale, 67, of Dardanelle was born March 16, 1934 to Roy E. and Verla Wade Hale in Scott County. After a year of battling cancer he went on to be with his Lord, his parents and daughter, Cindy, on the 16th day of November, 2001. Roy founded and operated Hale Oil Company in Waldron, Clarksville and Ft. Smith for twenty six years before selling and retiring to Dardanelle in 1994. He was an Air Force veteran, a 32nd Degree Mason, was instrumental in the formation of the Scott County Bank and served as a Director for many years. He was a current member of the Chambers Bank Board of Directors and attended the Dardanelle First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Kennedy Hale of the home; five daughters, Vickie Hale of Barling, Jan Borden of Greenwood, Renee Hix of Booneville, Christy Johnson of Waldron and Melanie Rhodes of Levasy, MO; two sons, Wesley Hale of Shawnee, OK and Russell Hale of Waldron; three sisters, Audrey Tinder and Carolyn Hill of Waldron, and Polly Carter of Belleville; three brothers, Ellis Hale and Leslie (Sonny) Hale of Waldron, and Lindy Hale of Harper's Ferry, W.V; eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Novina (Phillips) Standridge in July of 1987 and 10 brothers and sisters. He was the son of Isaac Newton Standridge and Alice Eliza (Tate)Standridge originally from Rome, Georgia. Mr. Standridge is survived by two sons: Newton Standridge and wife Carol (Jones) Standridge of Norwalk, Iowa, and Dennis Standridge and wife Kathy (Domerese) Standridge of Clarksville, Arkansas, as well as 4 grand- children: Stephen and Michael of Norwalk, Iowa and Mark and Amber Standridge of Clarksville, Arkansas. Bill was born and raised in the Opal community near Mena, Arkansas, living throughout the western United States as he worked on various construction projects including the construction of the Vallecito Dam in Colorado from 1938 to 1941. He enlisted in the Navy at the onset of WWII surviving serious naval battles including the Battle of Kula Gulf during which the USS Helena was sunk by Japanese torpedos on July 7, 1943 and the near sinking of the light cruiser USS Houston on October 14, 1944. During this valiant service to our country, Mr. Standridge received among his commendations, two purple hearts and the nickname "Bill" while helping to operate what was said to be the "fastest gun on the fightingest ship in the Pacific." Bill and Gladys were married while on leave during the war and settled back in the Mena area following the war. Mr. Standridge worked in hospital maintenance supervision most of the rest of his life. Retiring in 1966, he lived in Waldron and later Clarksville, Arkansas. Bill was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and dog trainer/breeder while living in Waldron, Arkansas, where he enjoyed hunting fox, deer, wolf and turkey. Gimlin Taff in Scott County, Arkansas. She married Raymond M. Watts on August 7, 1950 in Scott County, Arkansas. Doris was a Camp Ranger at Kickapoo Council Girl Scout Camp Tapawingo, a member of First Baptist Church of East Peoria, leader of Girl Scouts for 25 years, and a member of Whirl-a-way Square Dance Club of Mortor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on July 7, 1988 in Scott County, AR. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. & Mary Watts of Yates City, IL; one daughter and son-in-law, LaVonna L. & Greg Sams of East Peoria, IL; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; onebrother, Larry Taff of Waldron, AR; one sister-in-law, Hazel Taff; one brother-in-law, Dimon Sparks of Waldron, AR; two sisters, Marcine Newberry and Louise Holt both of Waldron, AR.
