Surname(s): DANIEL Headline: George DANIEL Killed George Daniel of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Marshall, Arkansas was killed by an overturning auto at Logan, Utah, last Tuesday. George Daniel has been a useful man. He grew to manhood on a little farm 7AE miles east of Marshall, Arkansas. He is a son of Uncle Bill and Aunt Lavina Daniel of Leslie, and a brother of Dr. S.G. Daniel of Marshall. Having known him from boyhood we never knew a single thing in his life to cause one any regret. His examples in life will ever prove of value to we who remain. He began his career as a teacher in the public schools of Searcy County having taught at St. Joe and Marshall. He ascended the ladder of promotion, until at the time of his death, he was Chief Post Office Inspector of the Denver Division. He served for seven years in the U.S. Sea Post Service on board a ship carrying mail from the U.S. to Europe. He made 90 round trips which would make 180 times across the Atlantic ocean. Dr. S.G. Daniel left Marshall Wednesday to be at the funeral which will be Saturday, September, 6. The deceased had been a Mason from the time he was twenty-one years of age and he would have been sixty years old in October. He will be buried with Masonic honors in Denver, the city of his home. The people of Searcy county will hear of his death with great regret, the people of Denver will feel the loss of this good man keenly and the U.S. Post Office Department will be crippled by his being taken from it, but "Thus saith the Lord." DANIEL to Retire From Active Practice Dr. Sam G. Daniel, practicing physician of Marshall and Searcy County for the past fifty years, announced this week his intention of retiring from active practice of medicine. Dr. Daniel, who came to Marshall in 1892, has done front-line service in his profession in all parts of the county since he established his office here. Answering calls throughout all hours of the night and day for patients who lived miles distant and could only be reached by horseback and on foot constituted a great portion of his practice in the early days. Even as late as 1920, when only a portion of the county was accessible to automobiles, Dr. Daniel kept his saddle horse to use on calls to the mountaineous sections of the county. He has remained active in his practice up to the present time. In announcing his intention of discontinuing his practice, Dr. Daniel issued the following statement: NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC I have spent the last 50 years -- a whole half century -- in the study and practice of medicine. I first attended school and graduated from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. In later years, I took Post-Graduate work at different times at the New York Polyclinic in New York City, and New Orleans Polyclinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. I came to Marshall to practice and have been here ever since, never having practiced a day anywhere else. I was reared on a farm near Leslie. I rode into Marshall the first day of March 1892. I rode horseback, and on a borrowed horse, one that had been loaned to me by the late Dr. D.P. Redwine, who lived at Leslie at that time, as I was not able to have a horse of my own. I had nothing in the way of property, and I was badly in debt. On coming to Marshall, I entered practice in partnership with the late Dr. A.J. Redwine. This partnership continued for three and one-half years. After that I have always practiced alone. I have maintained and occupied my present office for more than forty years. After all these years of faithful service, if I should retire of my own free will and accord, I don't see that my friends should find cause for complaint. But such is not the case, it is not my own choosing but owing to some physical defects, the outstanding of which is defective vision, I am forced to quit. "Not my will, but Thine be done." In the future I will be found around my old office and at my residence, ready to attend to any ordinary business. Very Truly, Sam G.
