She states: She is a resident of Fort Smith, County of Sebastian, State of Arkanss, she aged 50 years. She is the widow of George Preston, a ordance Sergeant in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Mary and George were married (as Mrs. Mary Holmes) on 9th of April in 1843. George Preston died on the 7th of February 1859. She has not remarried. Statement by Official, E. S. Parker, Lt. col & Mil. Secy. He was a famous old soldier, he served under General Jackson as a drummer boy at the Battle of New Orleans; and was in service nearly the whole time from that date to the day of his death. If possible Mrs. Preston's pension, should be paid to her regurlary; she has little else to depend upon, and is pretty well advanced in years. Her certificate of pension was recorded in the Pension Office, in Book D, Vol. 2nd, Page 428; by G I Getty, Clerk. Contains much data dealing with her request to transfer her pension from Fort Gibson, Arkansas to Little Rock, Arkansas, because there was no pension agent at Fort Gibson. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Additional Comments: WILL BOOK B, PAGE 332 (Dated January 16, 1879.)
