The boy not being a good swimmer was drowned without his companions being able to render assistance. Several boats from Van Buren drug the river without success. Watchers were out all night waiting for it to rise, which it did wednesday morning near the scene of the drowning.(Saturday, July 31,1897,Van Buren Press of Crawford County)
