     RICHARD PENDLETON DROWNS
       Richard Pendleton, the sixteen year old son of Lee
     Pendleton, living in the bottoms on the opposite side
     of the river, drowned while bathing with a brother and
     cousin  opposite the mouth of Lee's Creek, Tuesday
     afternoon.The current is very swift and has a sudden
     step off. The boy not being a good swimmer was drowned
     without his companions being able to render
     assistance.
      Several boats from Van Buren drug the river without
     success. Watchers were out all night waiting for it to
     rise, which it did wednesday morning near the scene of
