All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** John Berry Born March 19, 1920 Died August 5, 2006 John Champion "Jack" Berry, 86, of Fort Smith, died August 5, 2006 in Fort Smith. Jack was born on March 19, 1920 to A.Y. Berry and Fannie Champion Berry in Fort Smith. He was the Past President of Berry Dry Good Company, a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as both a Deacon and Elder, a member of the Noon Exchange Club, UCT, Third Generation and 44 year member of the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Fort Smith, and actively delivered meals on wheels for many years, a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II as a Tech Sergeant, participating in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day, Utah Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Ribbon, Three Bronze Service Stars, the Purple Heart, and Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He is survived by his wife Laura Sue Berry of Fort Smith; one daughter, Susan Berry Hall and her husband Garland of Bentonville, AR; two sons, John C. Berry, Jr. of Houston, TX; and Guillaume "Gimo" Berry of Fort Smith. Six Grandsons, Scott Jones, Berry Jones, Wade Jones and his wife Kelly, John C. Berry III, Guillaume "Gimo" Berry II, and Gabe Berry. He was preceded in death by his brother A.Y. Berry, Jr. and sister, Mary Frances Berson. Also survived by his devoted and caring caretaker of many years, Kathy Lusk and her niece, Kim Lovelace who assisted Kathy in his care. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church with a Private Burial to follow in the Oak Cemetery of Fort Smith all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
