Brothers - Bernie Childres* and Hanry Childres, Sr.* both of Earle, Arkansas 10 grandchildren 7 great-grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews [* Copied exactly as card, however correct spelling of his brother's name is Henry Childress, Sr. - all the other brothers spelled their names with a double 's'.] [Submitted by great-niece Rita Childress.] ------------------------------------ [Abstracted from funeral card, Fort Smith, Sebastian County, AR] VERVINIA SWEDEN CHILDRES Homegoing Celebration of Mother Vervinia Sweden Childress* Service Held First Church of God in Christ North 14th & "T" Streets Fort Smith, Arkansas Tuesday, October 1, 1985 11:00 a.m. Superintendent L. C. Dade, Pastor Mother Vervinia Sweden Childress was born February 15, 1908 in Paris, Arkansas to the late Fay and Amanda Sweden. She attended the public schools in Paris and the Fort Smith district. Mother Childress was was united in holy matrimony on November 3, 1925. To this union was born six children. Mother Childress was saved under the leadership of Elder Mynor Jones in March, 1925 in Earle, Arkansas. In 1939 she united with the First Church of God in Christ, and served the last thirty-four years under the leadership of Lawrence C. Dade. She served faithfully in several capacities. She was a deaconess and served as Card Class Sunday School teacher for forty years. Mother Vervinia Sweden Childress departed this life on Thursday, September 2, 1985 at 4:00 in the Saint Edward Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness at the age of 77 years. Survivors are her husband, Willie E. Childress; a daughter, Mrs. Althea Mae McGee of Fort Smith; a son, Willie E. Childress, Jr. of Flint, Michigan; eleven grandchilden, eight great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, several cousins and a host of friends.
