They moved to Carden Bottom and lived near the Petit Jean Creek below the Pontoon bridge. She was born October 31, 1901 the daughter of John and Wanda Smith Rainey. She married Earl Gilley at an early age and separated from him soon after. She went back to live with her parents and there her daughter, Vera Gilley, was born. Ruby attended the country schools and was a housewife. Her brother was Roscoe Rainey and her sisters were Opal, Johnie and Geneva. They attended Sunday School and Singings at Lakeview. She married Rueben Edward Person, M. D. on April 20, 1929. They lived in Carden Bottom before moving to Pine Bluff. They moved in their older years back to Birta in Perry County and bought a farm. After Dr. Person's death in 1959 she sold the farm and moved to Little Rock and worked as a clerk. She cared for her mother until her death, then her Aunt Cora Smith Holt lived with her until her death. Ruby bought a home in Pine Bluff to be near her daughter, Vera Merritt, and family. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Carden Bottom No. 240 Lodge.
