VIRGIL DUKE was born February 3, 1891, a native of Pope County, Arkansas. He was the son of Mrs. Robert Rainy. His father died early in his life. His sister, Willie Duke, married A. D. Booker at Vian, Oklahoma. She died in a Fort Smith Hospital on July 21, 1930. Virgil's home was in Appleton and he met and married Adelaide Person after she went there to school. They were secretly married on November 19, 1913 but they never lived together. Quite some time after seeing that his marriage to Adelaide would not work out he moved to Oklahoma and remarried. He had no children. No data on what trade he followed before entering the army in Waggoner, III Ammo, Tn. 36 Division, World War I. After the war he was confined to a Veteran's Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma as a mental patient. He died April 9, 1940 and his body was shipped to Appleton, Arkansas for funeral and military burial. Lucille Person (a niece of Adelaide's) was the only member of the family to view the corpse in a Russellville funeral home.
