She was the daughter of Herbert and Ethel Armstead Person. Her family moved to Russellville by 1932 where she attended her first school. Her family moved later to Cotton Town in Carden Bottom where she attended school until they moved to Fourche Valley (Wing) in 1941. She finished high school in Fourche Valley. In 1945 she took a trip with her mother, Ethel, to California and they then returned to White Oak mountain and lived in the home of her Grandparents Armstead. There she met and married R. G. Russell on March 7, 1946. He was the son of Rufus and Lillie Edwards Russell, all natives of Pope County. They moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where their four daughters were born. Later in Tulsa R. G. trained to be a barber. Rita and Dixie both finished high school in Tulsa. Dixie works in public works and Rita entered the University of Arkansas in September, 1967. A student loan enabled her to attend that college. Kathy b 1960 and Lois b 1962 are in grade school in the Tulsa public schools in 1968.
