These electronic pages cannot be reproduced in any format for profit or other presentation. ____________________________________________________________ C17 JOSEPH PATE PERSON, JR. is the son of B14- Joseph Simmons and IL3- Almedia Beavers Person was born, January 16, 1918 on West Markham Street in Little Rock, Arkansas, Pulaski County. He, with his parents, moved to Carden Bottom while yet an infant. He attended grade school in Lakeview and high school at Carden Bottom High. In 1937 his family moved to Hayti, Missouri. He finished high school there walking the distance of three miles into town along the railroad tracks. Joe, Jr. "Bo" was drafted into the Armed Forces during World War II around 1940. He trained at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed on Guadalcanal and fought on several different islands. He was shell shocked and picked up while unconscious and sent to a hospital in Australia before he regained consciousness. Only two other men in his unit lived to come back to the States, one of them dying soon after with malaria and the other one died a few years later. In 1943 Joe Jr. was sent to a camp in Wichita, Kansas before being released without a pension. Joe married IL1G- Elsie Louise Butler of near Hayti on January 10, 1944. She was born August 9, 1924. Joe and Elsie lived in several different places. He served on the Police Force in Popular Bluff, Missouri. He farmed for awhile, lived in Mississippi and over saw a cotton gin. He then moved to Arkansas to work at a gin and now in 1968 he is back in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Three children were born to this couple. D31- Jo Ann Person b -January 24, 1945 near Hayti in Pemiscot County m in 1967 Israel Davis. D32- Joan Bonita Person b July 12, 1947 near Hayti, Missouri m in 1968 a Wilmire. D33- Garry Gene Person b December 14, 1948 near Hayti, Missouri.
