He is the son of Opie and Lucille Person Tucker. Wally entered first grade in Fox River Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. In 1953 the family moved to Mountain View, California and in 1958 to nearby Los Altos where he finished high school on June 13, 1963. He attended Foothill College in Los Altos Hills two years and two years at California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo, California, receiving a BS degree from that college. The degree was in Business Administration on June 10, 1967. His family moved to Los Angeles in July, 1967 and that fall he attended one quarter at California State College at Los Angeles (same college his mother was attending). He volunteered for the Air Force in January, 1968 and was sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. There he was medically discharged after two weeks because of allergies. In 1960-1965 he worked part time in the advertising and circulation departments of a weekly newspaper. In March, 1968, he began full time employment with Union Oil Company of California as a computer programmer. He is now employed there and attending night classes at UCLA in Los Angeles (1968).
